Population and Immigration Data, Projections and Graphs

What is causing population growth and associated sprawl across the U.S.? The Census Bureau projects that U.S. population will double this century, practically within the lifetimes of children born today. 70% of this doubling will be due to mass immigration - that is, due to new immigrants and their descendents. For more U.S. information, see U.S. data. For an easily-read presentation of the facts, go to NumbersUSA.com, and review the information presented on the right hand side of the page.

Colorado currently has 4.3 million residents and is the third-fastest growing state in the U.S. Colorado is suffering from overcrowded schools, and traffic, congestion, smog, and sprawl. Every hour, ten acres of our farmland and open space are lost to development. For more information about Colorado, see Colorado data. Also see quick facts.

Observations
  • The health of our country, the vitality of business, and welfare of the average person, does not depend upon population growth.
  • Continuous growth is impossible. In the long run so-called smart growth has the same result as dumb growth, dumb growth just gets you there quicker.
  • Growth is like rain - a little is good, but too much is disastrous.
  • Conservationists cannot succeed in protecting our natural heritage unless population becomes part of the solution.
  • We cannot have a sane immigration policy until we have a sane population policy.
  • An increasing population uses more resources and produces more pollution.
