The Westminster Republican won his first term in office two years ago ... giving Republicans the slim 33-32 majority they hold in the Colorado House.

In November, Ramirez faces Tracy Kraft-Tharp, a Democrat from Arvada. Democrats have vowed to retake the purple district in Jefferson County, one of several key seats they hope to flip to regain the state House.

Kraft-Tharp says she would have supported the bill, saying, "Every one of our children (aka 'Unauthorized Alien Students' - CRS Report for Congress)  should have the opportunity to achieve the American dream."
