"We must become more and more accustomed to sprawl,
congestion, wilderness losses, ethnic enclaves, families locked in
an underclass for generations, lopsided school costs, battles over
bilingualism, demeaning of citizenship and - perhaps most
important of all - a continued lessening of the chance that an
ordinary American will ever converse with any member of Congress."
- John Bermingham, Colorado Population Coalition

Political and Legislative Issues
In 1965, Congress increased immigration levels nearly six-fold. The Census Bureau says that U.S. population will double this century, practically within the lifetimes of children born today. Because birth rates of American-born are at near replacement level, 70% of this doubling will be due to immigration - that is, due to recent immigrants and their descendents. For an excellent presentation of these facts, go to

The U.S. has no more vast unexplored spaces to settle, and the environmental, social, and economic consequences of continued population growth will be severe - at the national, state, and local levels. It is the obligation of Congress to return immigration numbers to traditional, sustainable levels for the sake of our children and grandchildren. Likewise, it is the obligation of state governments to work toward immigration stabilization.
