Forum tackles illegal-immigration "crisis"

Organizers say time for citizens to act

Oct. 19, (Aspen, CO)….A forum on illegal immigration in Colorado intended "to rally citizens to take action and fill the void left by the abdicating federal government and Colorado state government" "will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22., forum organizers announced this week. The forum, The Colorado Illegal-Immigration Crisis: Colorado Solutions, is scheduled for 2:00pm to 4:30pm, at the University of Denver's Boettcher Hall.

Forum participants include U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo; former INS Senior Special Agent, Jim Spence; Dr. William Herron, of the Defend Colorado Now Initiative (DCN); Frosty Wooldridge, author, lecturer; state legislators, immigration activists and others. The event is sponsored by the Aspen-based Colorado Alliance News (CAN), in cooperation with DCN and the Colorado Alliance for Immigration Reform.

Mike McGarry, CAN's director, said polls show that 70 to 80 percent of citizens, across racial, ethnic and class lines, want illegal immigration dealt with now, and, he said, they don't want another amnesty. "Because of the utter failure of our elected officials, responsibility for dealing with illegal immigration has now shifted, by default, to we the people, and we accept that responsibility," McGarry said.

The event will be video taped for a subsequent video news release on illegal immigration in Colorado. Colorado Alliance News is a Colorado nonprofit corporation specializing in immigration and population issues.
