Fryda Faugier Ferreira, who crossed the border with her family when she was a baby, has dedicated her adult life to empowering undocumented and first-generation immigrants, herself included.

As an undergrad at the University of Denver, she learned how to be an activist, how to lobby. She’s a recipient of DACA — that is, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program established in 2012 by the Obama administration — and she now works full-time advising other Dreamers and undocumented students ...

The U.S. Supreme Court will begin hearing oral arguments Tuesday in a case that could lead to the end of the DACA. Beneficiaries of this program are worried that if the court eventually sides against them, their careers and families could be upended, and that they could be deported.

I can’t be hopeful that people are going to see us as human beings. I try to stay hopeful because of all those younger students, but it’s really hard,” Faugier Ferreira said, as she prepared to head to Washington with 10 other DACA recipients. “We’re always preparing for the worst. We’re preparing to move on with or without DACA.”

DACA has afforded protection from deportation to undocumented young people who came to the United States as children...

Then Obama launched DACA, and Molina applied immediately. She was accepted, and that allowed her to apply for a student loan, which allowed her to graduate ...

Dozens convened at Denver city hall Friday afternoon for a rally to assure people like Molina that they are seen, and that, heading into what will be a heavy week, they are supported. In the crowd were some DACA recipients, many citizen activists, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, Denver Councilwoman Jamie Torres, state Rep. Leslie Herod and U.S. Reps. Diana DeGette and Jason Crow.
