Seven O.C. arrests part of national gang sweep Operation Southbound
Seven people in Orange County were among 157 arrested in Southern California over the past two months in an operation targeting international street gangs, federal immigration authorities said Thursday.
Anaheim and Placentia police aided federal agents as part of Operation Southbound, which included 757 arrests nationwide between March 12 and April 13, according to an announcement from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
ICE said the operation targeted gangs affiliated with the Sureños, a multinational gang with more than 30,000 members in cliques around the country that is linked to the Mexican Mafia ....
ICE spokesmen said 129 of those arrested in Southern California face criminal charges including weapons and drug violations, while 28 face immigration charges and possible deportation.
