The Great Rocky Mountain Heist

I grew up a liberal Democrat. I couldn't help it - that was just the environment in which I was raised. The family values I grew up with included hard work, managing a business, solid education, appreciating culture and the arts, environmental conservatism, and helping others who truly needed help.

That was before the Democratic party adopted a socialist agenda and the Republican party became corporatized. Now it's pretty clear that both parties are in it for their own self interest, corporate greed, and big-bucks donors. Even back in the late 1980's I realized that the Democratic party no longer represented my core values and interests - they had sold out, just as the Republican party has sold out to big business interests. Both parties want open borders, no matter what the impact on Americans and America's future.

True conservatives and conservationists today receive little, if any, support for their concerns from the major political parties.

What happened? It's fairly well understood that the GOP elite (but not the rank and file) are puppets for wealthy corporate interests. What is not well understood is how wealthy elites with a Leftist agenda have similarly usurped the Democratic party, particularly in Colorado.

The Great Colorado Heist

It turns out that a secretive “Gang of Four” of Leftist millionaires and billionaires recently hijacked Colorado politics. The result has been a political takeover and restructuring of a solid conservative Red state. Because of this influence, Colorado is now a conspicuous centerpiece in President Obama’s promise to "fundamentally transform America." The "Colorado Model" is now ripe for replication in other states.

A new documentary, Rocky Mountain Heist, has been released describing how this was orchestrated. Narrator Michelle Malkin states:

Liberty-loving Americans: You MUST watch our film exposing how a small group of wealthy liberals overtook Colorado. They used every scheme possible to impose a backward agenda and they transformed the place I love into a testing ground for their liberal ideology. Make sure it doesn't happen in your state next!"

The video looks promising. I have yet to view it because it just got released after a grueling court battle. The District of Colorado District Court had refused to treat the film as a documentary, instead requiring it to be treated as campaign material - thus effectively barring the film from standard distribution. The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals just issued an injunction allowing the documentary to be distributed as free political speech under the First Amendment.

A note to Republicans

You're not off the hook. Open borders won't work any more. There is no unified "Hispanic bloc", and saying that you must cater to it is a red herring. The time is now to represent the interests of American workers - of all races, creeds, and colors. Any candidate who says "it's time to secure our borders and stop subsidizing illegal aliens" will receive an inordinately huge vote.

Who’s afraid of ‘Rocky Mountain Heist?’, Michelle Malkin, October 16, 2014.

Free at last! I’m silent no more. Now, the story can be told.

Democrats here in my adopted state of Colorado did not want the new political documentary I hosted to see the light of day. They lost. This week, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals issued an emergency injunction declaring that our movie deserved the same free-speech rights as a “traditional” (translation: old-guard liberal) news organization.

Rocky Mountain Heist,” produced by David Bossie’s Citizens United and directed by Jason Killian Meath, tells the story of how a wealthy quartet of liberal millionaires and billionaires in Colorado — known as the “Gang of Four” — took over the once-red state of Colorado in the course of a decade.

As a conservative journalist in both “old” and “new” media for more than two decades, I’ve used my First Amendment rights to follow the radical left’s money and connect the dots for readers and viewers. The media marketplace has been too long dominated by liberal corporate statists allied with Big Government, cloaked in the pretense of institutional objectivity.

The 10th circuit panel of three judges unanimously rejected speech-stifling arguments that our expose was somehow an “electioneering communication” subject to onerous disclosure requirements — from which the likes of the Denver Post or Colorado public radio are arbitrarily exempt. It’s “government putting its thumb on the scale,” Citizens United super-lawyer Ted Olson argued in court — treacherously elastic and prone to abuse.

A six-year resident of Colorado, you can imagine my amusement, sitting in court last week in Denver, listening to government officials capriciously attack our film (which they hadn’t seen) as a “drop-in attack ad” from nefarious, out-of-state interests.

Reality check: The nearly-hour-long film illustrates how the Gang of Four coordinated their campaign targets and spending behind closed doors. We report on how they drafted up elitist plans to “educate the idiots.” With commentary from journalists, local and state Republican lawmakers, and even one political science professor (who ironically testified against Citizens United’s right to equal media treatment!), “Rocky Mountain Heist” traces how the liberal scions and their “Colorado Democracy Alliance” captured the governor’s mansion, the state legislature, and two Senate seats...

What are the opponents of “Rocky Mountain Heist” so afraid of? An informed citizenry, an independent media, and conservatives willing to go to the mat for their constitutional rights.

The Blueprint: How the Democrats Won Colorado (and Why Republicans Everywhere Should Care), by  Rob Witwer and Adam Schrager. (256 pages. ISBN-10: 1936218003; ISBN-13: 978-1936218004).

This is the inside story of one of the most stunning reversals of political fortune in American history. Four years ago, the GOP dominated politics at every level in Colorado. Republicans held both Senate seats, five of seven congressional seats, the governor’s mansion, the offices of secretary of state and treasurer, and both houses of the state legislature. After the 2008 election, the exact opposite was true: replace the word Republicans with Democrats in the previous sentence, and you have of one the most stunning reversals of political fortune in American history.

This is also the story of how it will happen—indeed, is happening—in other states across the country. In Colorado, progressives believe they have found a blueprint for creating permanent Democratic majorities across the nation. With discipline and focus, they have pioneered a legal architecture designed to take advantage of new campaign finance laws and an emerging breed of progressive donors who are willing to commit unprecedented resources to local races. It’s simple, brilliant, and very effective.
