The Blackening of Europe - a Cosmopolitan Elite Catastrophe
The Blackening of Europe: Ideologies & International Developments, by Clare Ellis (2020) is an in-depth, insightful, and yet very readable expose of the forces decimating European civilization. This review focuses on Volume 1 of the three-volume series.
The Blackening of Europe offers a serious critique of the European Union and the threat of globalism and mass immigration to native Europeans and Western Civilization.
Europeans - that is, Whites - today have a total fertility rate (TFR) of 1.6, well below replacement level fertility of 2.1. Africa has the highest TFR, at 4.7.
Sixty years ago, European elites initiated massive immigration of non-Europeans into Europe. This, coupled with native White European population decline, is driving native Europeans to become minorities in the nations that their ancestors founded. This demographic replacement is compounded by the fact that the predominantly Islamic replacements being brought into Europe have absolutely no intention of assimilating into Western culture. Their aim is to supplant it. Europe is being colonized.
Ellis shows that the destruction of Europe is an engineered project of cosmopolitan elites who have no national and historical roots. She states that:
... the EU project, including its attempts towards a Euro-Mediterranean Union, is a politically engineered cosmopolitan project rooted in anti-nationalism, the erasure of ethno-national identities, and the severing of political power and sovereignty from indigenous Europeans.
She describes the nearly invisible orchestrators of the project:
... the new cosmopolitan class are composed of wealthy and influential elites who are either neoliberals motivated by global capitalism, or else some form of socialist (Leftists, cultural Marxists) motivated by universal values and societal transformation...
Various forms of cosmopolitanism have been central to socialist, neoliberal, and neoconservative elites who, in an effort to transform societies in the post-WWII Western world, have used cosmopolitan ideals to emphasize and justify mass-immigration, multiculturalism, anti-nationalism, one worldism, universal values, world citizenship, mass-culture, global governance, and the erasure of borders and national ethnic identities in Europe and European-based countries (the West).
Ellis emphasizes that:
A concerted and long-term attack against the civilization of white, European and North American man has been launched, and the attack is not confined to the political, social and cultural institutions that characterize the civilization but extends also to the race that created the civilization and continues to carry and transmit it today.
Ellis observes how the deck now has been stacked against native Europeans:
... native Europeans are also not afforded special rights to protect, celebrate, and enhance their unique and collective ethnic identities and ways of life. Instead, they are compulsed into political subjection and silenced through various methods of state-enforced coercion such as multiculturalism, political correctness, and punishment of dissent.
History of the pan-European cosmopolitan movement
Ellis tracks the cosmopolitan movement beginning with Rousseau's 1756 Project for Perpetual Peace. The Post-WWI Paneuropean Movement was founded in 1922 by Count Richard Nikolaus Eijiro von Coudenhove-Kalergi. The "balance of powers" principle sought to prevent one nation from achieving hegemony, and required constant changing of alliances. The League of Nations was founded in 1919 to foster peace in Europe.
Two influential ideologies advanced in the mid twentieth century which are linked to efforts to integrate Europe.
The first is the British Fabian Society. Ellis writes that:
The strategy of the Fabians can be understood by their 'doctrine of inevitability of gradualism', which is clarified by G.B. Shaw, one of the leading figures of the Fabian Society and one of the main promoters of cosmopolitanism in Britain. He wrote that the methods of the Society were 'stealth, intrigue, subversion, and the deception of never calling socialism by its right name.'
Fabian socialism is different from classical Marxist socialism in its strategy, preferring wealthy elites as the source of revolutionary capital. Ellis notes that:
The UK Labour Party is now the leading advocate of the social and demographic engineering project that aims to transform the national character and ethnic identity of Great Britain through large-scale non-European immigration and immigrant multicultural ideology.
The second transformative ideology is that of the German Frankfurt School. Its Critical Theory originated with German Jewish Marxist theoretician Karl Korsch. Ellis writes that:
This Marxist ideology came to be known as cultural Marxism, a non-violent collectivist revolutionary ideology that seeks the gradual gain of power via destructive effects to cultural and political structures, such as the modification of laws, traditional political and educational institutions, and social organisations. William S. Lind, an American paleoconservative and author, explains that Cultural Marxism is a branch of western Marxism, different from the Marxism-Leninism of the old Soviet Union. It is commonly known as 'multiculturalism' or, less formally, Political Correctness. From its beginning, the promoters of cultural Marxism have known they could be more effective if they concealed the Marxist nature of their work, hence the use of terms such as 'multiculturalism'.
Ellis then discusses the roles of Antonio Gramsci and Herbert Marcuse, and how Critical Theory involved the:
... destructive criticism of the main elements of Western culture, including Christianity, capitalism, authority, the family, patriarchy, hierarchy, morality, tradition, sexual restraint, loyalty, patriotism, nationalism, heredity, ethnocentrism, convention and conservatism.
In 1933, many of the Frankfurt School relocated to America to continue their disruptive efforts.
Ellis then contrasts and compares social liberalism, neoliberalism, neoconservatism, conservatism multiculturalism, and Fabian socialism which:
advocates a non-violent step-by-step revolutionary transformation of established society towards a new world order that is exacted by changing the system from within, by infiltrating educational institutions, government agencies, and political parties, and initiated by the wealthy socialist classes.
That is, the "long march through existing institutions."
Ellis projects that:
European ethno-cultural nation-states in particular will be deliberately transformed into 'neutral' and secular public environments of cultural and racial plurality favourable towards non-European immigrants, a process that will accommodate the Arabisation, Africanisation, and Islamisation of European cultures and populations.
Indeed, the transformation is already underway.
Unfortunately, the motivation for the destruction of Europe is questionable; it is a grand experiment initiated without consent of those governed who are destined to see their culture, their nations, and their history erased.
Ellis writes:
Mass-immigration and the EU project are 'experiments', per the declarations of their masterminds and those who support them, as cited in the body of this work. These creators and advocates perceive mass-immigration as a tool to ethnically mix European homogeneous populations for various reasons, including an attempt to end racism, ethnic conflict and intra-European national conflict, to separate nation from state, and to usher in a form of world governance.
One must ask, who the hell gave these ignoble elites the authority and the means to destroy Europe, its people, and Western Civilization?
The Blackening of Europe is highly recommended reading, offering lucid and comprehensive insight into the reasons why Europe is being destroyed.
